Hi, I’m Andrew Zwicker. Welcome to my SQL blog! I hope my posts prove helpful for Application Developers, SQL Developers, and other SQL enthusiasts out there.
I’ve been working with the Boston Public Schools for ~5 years, mostly as an application developer but more recently in a data integration lead role. My focus has been on modifying, upkeeping, and improving the Registration, Assignment, and Transportation systems used by BPS to meet constantly changing business requirements. The data at BPS is vital – I probably spend 65-70% of my development time working with SQL code. That isn’t likely to change either since we’re moving from primarily building homegrown applications to primarily integrating data with 3rd party applications.
Why start a blog? If spending a bit of my time can help someone save a few hours of their time – that’s an exchange that’s always worth making. With the web, the magnitude of this is simply enhanced. Instead of helping one person at their cubicle or a handful of people in a meeting, this blog is my chance to help anyone reading this blog [and I hope that'll be many people, at least eventually].
So stay a while, bookmark the page, and enjoy your stay!

Hi Andrew,
Welcome to the blogosphere!
We look forward to hearing your thoughts on key-value and graph data-structure paradigms via NoSQL or an implementation of it using SQL Server.

Thanks, Mike! I haven’t used NoSQL, but one of these days maybe I’ll do some research and add a post about my findings. But certainly if you or anyone has any good topic ideas, please share them by adding a comment and I’ll add it to my list of topics to talk about.

I found your blog through SQLServerCentral. You’re off to a great start! Keep it up!
I work at a private university managing our student information system. I can totally relate to the 65-70% estimate. There are days I never login to the actual application itself and instead perform all of my work through SSMS.
